Job Duties The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ)
protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be
successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public
safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives
of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the
Commonwealth. DJJ is seeking a General Utility Trades Worker . This
role provides basic assistance for plumbing, painting, electrical,
HVAC, carpentry, and grounds operations. Performs duties safely and
in a manner that supports the mission and goals of the Department
of Juvenile Justice. Job responsibilities consist of, but are not
limited to: Reads, comprehends, and follows oral and written
instructions; Works independently and as part of a team;
Communicates effectively orally and in written English; Ability to
lift heavy objects as required; Ability to serve on-call during
nights, weekends, and holidays, on a rotating basis. Minimum
Qualifications Demonstrated ability to read and interpret
blueprints, drawings, and diagrams and use appropriate tools and
equipment. Performs and assists with carpentry and painting
projects; Performs general maintenance and repairs; Operates
vehicles and small machinery; Follows safety practices related to
work; Performs and assists general electrical repairs and
