The Office of Health Promotion (OHP) at the University of Virginia is seeking a dynamic Associate Director to promote wellbeing through leadership of the University's efforts to proactively and holistically promote healthy relationships by addressing the complexity of sexual violence. Reporting to the Director of OHP, this position provides senior leadership and management for planning, developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the University's comprehensive sexual violence prevention plan. This includes sexual violence prevention interventions and services designed to increase healthy relationships and decrease gender and power-based violence, facilitate student learning outcomes and improve wellbeing and health behaviors and status, and promote wellbeing of our University community. The successful candidate will be adept at addressing the issues from the full spectrum of individual to community health, prevention to response, compliance, threat assessment, law and policy, and research. While students are the primary focus of the endeavors of this position, supporting the wellbeing and health of students necessitates considering and supporting the welfare of staff and faculty. This is a full-time 12-month University Staff position with all state benefits.Specific responsibilities include:Supervision/Administration (40%)* Assist the Director in such areas as development of Office of Health Promotion policies and initiatives, budget management, evaluation, and public relations and communications.* Creatively and strategically facilitate organizational change.* Mentor and grow staff members who provide healthy relationships and sexual violence prevention interventions, as well as undergraduate/graduate interns and volunteers.* Manage Student Health website content that pertains to sexual violence. Provide input on relevant content for other University websites, as appropriate.* Provide leadership on development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and evidence-informed University sexual violence prevention strategic plan with annual and long-term goals and objectives.Pan-University Collaborations (30%)* Cultivate and sustain strong, collaborative working relationships and initiatives with colleagues across the University (i.e., Title IX, Deans/Directors in Student Affairs, Athletics Administration, Admissions, University Communications, etc.), the Charlottesville community, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.* Chair the University's Healthy Sexual Culture Committee which identifies key issues that should be institutional priorities and ensures sufficient resources are dedicated. Emphasis is on enhancing the supportiveness of the campus environment, advancing health protective factors and campus strengths, and reducing personal and campus community risk factors.* Conceptualize and implement annual orientation programs, including the annual event for all incoming first-year students.* Represent the Office of Health Promotion and the University on appropriate internal and external committees.Prevention to Response Initiatives (30%)* Analyze data in order to identify needs and priorities, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and track trends (University and national) in attitudes, knowledge, perceptions, and behaviors to inform work.* Ensure that valid, reliable and appropriate population-based assessments of the health status, needs, and strengths of the members of the campus community are utilized in the planning for and delivery of prevention interventions (e.g., The National College Health Assessment).* Review appropriate theory and research in the promotion and prevention field and ensure that all programs and policies are grounded in sound and current theory and evidence. Serve as University expert on campus sexual, relationship and gender and power-based violence prevention.* Report on population-based assessments of health status, needs, and assets of students and environmental assessments of community health needs and resources at the University.* Identify the root causes and environmental factors specific to the University which contribute to unhealthy relationships in order to stop sexual violence before it occurs.* Use the Socio-Ecological Model, Motivational Interviewing, Social Norms Theory, and other positive, inclusive, and empowering interventions to create sustainable behavior change.* Evaluate current bystander intervention program and implement needed changes.* Train student leaders (i.e., peer educators, resident advisors, orientation leaders, etc.) and facilitate discussion on healthy relationships, health promotion theories, etc. Support, guide, and mentor students in formulating projects on complex and sensitive issues.* Facilitate discussions and presentations for staff, faculty, and community partners on topics related to sexual violence prevention and healthy relationship promotion.* Serve as a member of the Student Health multi-disciplinary team on healthy sexuality.* Remain fluent on Title IX directives, Campus SaVE Act, VAWA, and other policies and guidelines.This position requires working a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. Employment is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check and a drug screen.Required Qualifications:Applicants must have a minimum of a Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a closely related field of study. Screening will begin in April 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Appointment will begin in the summer of 2019In addition, applicants must have:* at least five years of professional management experience;* at least five years professional experience in sexual violence prevention;* demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and administer a successful team including the selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of employees and effective budget management;* understanding of intersection between alcohol use, mental health, sexual violence, hazing, and other public health issues - and its impact on diverse populations;* understanding of the intersectionality of student identities -including gender, race, and sexual orientation -particularly as they relate to sexual violence prevention and healthy relationship promotion;* knowledge of behavior change theories, Socio-Ecological Model, Social Norms Theory, Motivational Interviewing, and social marketing principles;* demonstrated coalition building skills;* working knowledge of higher education law and policy as it relates to sexual violence;* demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and creating inclusive environments;* strong commitment to the educational purposes of the Department of Student Health and Division of Student Affairs, including student-self-governance;* excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;* experience teaching and training;* experience with qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods;* ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive with pursuing collaborations; and* ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.Preferred Qualifications:* Ph.D. in Public Health, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a closely related field of study* Demonstrated research and publication success* Knowledge of best practices in collegiate health promotion and public health* Understanding of undergraduate students' development issues, emerging needs, and interestsThe University of Virginia, including the UVA Health System and the University Physician's Group are fundamentally committed to the diversity of our faculty and staff.
