Job Description Job Description Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1 years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. This role offers an opportunity to provide specialized care in a progressive care/stepdown unit where patients with complex cardiac, vascular, surgical, renal, respiratory, and sepsis conditions receive focused nursing attention. The position requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to manage advanced cardiac drips, respiratory support devices, and complex monitoring equipment. Key Qualifications and Desired Experience: - Current RN license eligible for practice under state compact or state license - Minimum 1 year of RN experience; 6 months preferred in acute care hospital setting - Proficient in lab draws and IV starts - Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - Experience managing cardiac drips, BiPAP, insulin drips, bedside cardiac monitoring, and stable tracheostomies - Ability to pass EKG exam at orientation - Strong clinical judgment and multitasking skills in fast-paced settings - Effective communication and patient advocacy skills - Familiarity with EPIC Electronic Health Record system is a plus Responsibilities: - Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients in the stepdown unit - Administer medications safely in accordance with protocols and standards - Closely monitor cardiac patients including those receiving pressors and drips - Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care - Educate patients and families on treatments and health maintenance - Advocate for patient safety and well-being, especially in complex or critical cases - Respond adaptively to rapidly changing patient conditions - Adhere to infection control and safety protocols - Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives Schedule and Location: - Located in Mechanicsville, VA - Contract position - 4x12-hour night shifts, every other weekend and major holidays required About Mechanicsville, VA:Mechanicsville offers a blend of suburban living with convenient access to urban amenities.
