Job Description:
The University of Virginia seeks a Store Manager to join the
University Bookstore. The Bookstore
(https://uvabookstores.com/default.asp?) is a self- supporting,
non-profit organization that receives no local or state funding and
is owned and operated by the University. They are dedicated to
supporting both academic programs and student life. The main
Bookstore location features textbooks for all UVA classes, over
30,000 different trade books, supplies and the best UVA clothing
and gifts. In addition, customers can order diploma frames, fine
framed prints and chairs. The UVA Bookstore and Cavalier Computers
are located across from Newcomb Hall on the fourth floor of the
Central Grounds Parking Garage and are within easy walking distance
of the Rotunda, Scott Stadium, and the UVA Medical Center. In
addition to the main Bookstore, there are four satellite stores.
TJs Locker is located inside the Aquatic Fitness Center directly
across from the Scott Stadium. Courts & Commerce is located inside
the UVA Law School and serves law students, faculty and staff.This
position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project
need, availability of funding and performance.Responsibilities:
- Trains and maintains a staff that provides exemplary customer
service to ensure consistent customer satisfaction, and acts
responsibly and professionally in accordance with established
policies.
- Purchases non-imprinted sporting good items for TJ's
Locker.
- Provides detailed information and/or requests to the Associate
Director about/for imprinted merchandise for TJ's Locker.
- Oversees aspects of the financial management of TJ's
Locker.
- Performance Management (for all employees who supervise
others).
- Oversees store operations. Co-ordinates and/or performs opening
and closing duties.
- Responsible for marketing merchandise to the Faculty, Staff,
and Student community; focusing on first year students, summer
camps, special event participation, and the anticipated traffic
volume.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may
be assigned.Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least four years of
retail experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to accurately operate a cash register.
- Ability to multi task.
- Knowledge of sporting goods and athletics.Preferred
Qualifications:
- One year of college education, or the equivalent in work
related experience.
- Experience in retail management, preferably in a college
bookstore.
- 1-2 years Retail Management.
- 1-2 years experience in a sporting goods store and/or college
bookstore.
- 1-2 years customer service experience.Compensation:The
Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $34,000 - $37,000,
commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time
