Job Description:
Since 2005-2006 the University of Virginia has maintained a
contractual agreement with the Peace Corps and has provided
professional campus recruitment services through its Career Center.
The Peace Corps Campus Recruiter (hired by UVA and paid by the
Peace Corps) works with the Peace Corps Recruiting Office to
provide information about Peace Corps volunteer service
opportunities to the University of Virginia campus and surrounding
communities.
The University of Virginia has ranked in the top three in the
country on Peace Corps' list of top volunteer-producing colleges in
the large school category, with recent graduates currently serving
as volunteers overseas. Since Peace Corps' inception, over 1,000
UVA alumni have served in the Peace Corps.
Overview: The Peace Corps Strategic Campus (Strat) Recruiter will
increase awareness of Peace Corps Volunteer opportunities on
Grounds and in the surrounding community through a variety of
recruitment activities, including, but not limited to: delivering
class or club presentations, tabling in public, high-traffic areas
on Grounds and/or at career fairs, organizing and facilitating
application workshops and retention events, and developing
relationships with key stakeholders at UVA. The Strat Recruiter has
a dual reporting line to the Senior Regional Recruiter for Peace
Corps and the Associate Director for Public Service and Government
Community and Global Careers at the UVA Career Center. As a member
of the Career Center Team, the Strat Recruiter will develop
recruitment activities in line with the Public Service and
Government Community, an industry-specific advising unit within the
Career Center.
Depending on campus activities and recruitment events, evening and
weekend hours may be required.
Responsibilities:
* Distribute agency approved brochures, posters, visual aids, and
other Peace Corps recruitment materials to individuals, groups,
associations, faculty, and targeted populations
* Complete class talks or presentations including talks targeted to
diverse populations on campus
* Complete application workshops, which coincide with Peace Corps'
application deadlines
* Staff a recruitment table (e.g. university career fairs, other
events with similar goals and/or tabling public, high-traffic areas
on campus)
* Organize and facilitate retention events (e.g. send-off/welcome
back volunteer parties, friends and family events, Peace Corps Week
celebrations, and/or RPCV panels).
* Hold relationship-building meetings (weighted toward early in the
fall semester) with key on-campus and community stakeholders that
align with Peace Corps' six sectors with the intention of gaining
access to students
* Hold relationship-building meetings with key on-campus diversity
departments and leaders (multicultural/diversity offices, student
transfer offices, student life offices, scholarship program
offices, club leaders, Greek leaders, etc.) with the intention of
gaining access to students
* Post and hold at least 2 regular office hours per week to meet
with potential and current applicants
* Digitally collect leads at events, or as directed by the
designated Volunteer Recruitment & Selection (VRS)
representative
* Input partnership information, meetings and other pertinent
details into specific Peace Corps systems, or as directed by the
designated VRS representative
* Meet application and lead goals set by the Peace Corps
* Write and submit monthly, mid-year and final year reports
* Complete mandatory virtual or in-person Strat trainings
* Respond to Peace Corps and campus staff in a timely manner, as
well as attend regularly scheduled meetings initiated by the Peace
Corps
* Other duties as assigned
Depending on campus activities and recruitment events, evening and
weekend hours may be required. The position is "open until filled"
and candidates will be screened on a rolling basis with an
immediate start date available following successful completion of
background checks. The successful candidate will fulfill the
current year contract (through July 31, 2022) with the intention of
continuation into the next academic year (August 1, 2022 - July 31,
2023) with the option for (3) more additional years, if contract
continuation is offered by the Peace Corps. The successfully
candidate will also attend Peace Corps trainings in August and
September and the UVA Career Center staff retreat August 16 and 17,
2022. This position will primarily work on Grounds, with some
flexibility for working virtually when classes are not in
session.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
* $20 - $25 per hour depending on qualifications.
* An E3 parking permit is provided for this Campus Recruiter
position.
Required Qualifications:
* Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV)
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Time management skills with ability to work with great
autonomy
* Organized and able to meet deadlines
* Experience preparing and delivering presentations in small and
large groups
* Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as
presentation skills
* Ability to advise/communicate on an individual level
* Experience with virtual meeting platforms like Zoom to conduct
virtual meetings with students
* Must be able to work approximately 20 hours per week including
provision of regular office hours in University Career Services
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree is preferred
* Exceptional marketing skills
* Outreach and networking experience

This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other
benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. For more

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of
desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some
distance to attend meetings, and programs.
