Commonwealth. About the Job: The School Safety Officer is
responsible for implementing the consistent daily application of
procedures and best practices to ensure the safety, security, and
welfare of all staff and students at Yvonne B. Miller High School
and Post-Secondary Programs. This position reports directly to the
Director of School Security and Staff Safety. Successful candidates
will have support from the agency to attain the DCJS School
Security Officer Certification within 60 days of hire with
continued SSO recertification every 2 years as well as obtaining
and maintaining CPR certification. This position will serve on an
hourly basis (on average 29 hours per week) not to exceed 1500
hours per wage calendar year (May 1- April 30). This hourly role
does not include agency-paid benefits. The hours of work will be
7:30 am to 4:30 pm. You must be available to work a full shift.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of effective techniques needed to
establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and
students. Ability to monitor student behavior and deter
inappropriate behavior while in the education setting. Demonstrated
ability to quickly assess situations and provide the appropriate
response. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both
orally and in writing to maintain records/documentation and prepare
reports. Additional Considerations Knowledge of adolescent
development to include brain development, mental health, and
impulse regulation. Experience supervising and interacting with
at-risk or adjudicated juveniles. Considerable work-related
experience, including security-related experience. Special
