The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia (UVA)
invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position
seeking candidates for the Chief, Division of Thoracic Surgery.
Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications. The ideal
candidate will possess a comprehensive ability to provide
leadership and care for the thoracic surgical patient population
including management of thoracic malignancies, esophageal disease,
mediastinal tumors, lung transplantation and the use of minimally
invasive surgical procedures. Enthusiastic leadership and
experience in student, resident, and thoracic fellow training and
education is essential as is the mentorship of departmental faculty
members. A strong record of academic leadership, industry or grant
funded research, and a nationally recognized reputation is expected
of successful candidates.
Candidates must be board certified in thoracic surgery with a
nationally recognized background in clinical or basic science
research and currently hold an appointment of Associate or Full

General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery Residency Programs with strong
national reputations. The Thoracic Surgery Residency Program
matriculates two trainees per year, has a traditional 2-year
program, and integrated 6 and 4-3 program tracks.
