Key duties include managing the Payroll Specialist, ensuring payroll compliance with current government regulations (federal, state, and foreign tax authorities), auditing payroll processes and tax filings with the Workday payroll platform, developing and maintaining written departmental policies and procedures, and enforcing adherence to payroll policies and internal controls.The position is headquartered in Charlottesville, VA and reports to the Senior Manager, Finance Operations within the Finance and Corporate Support division.Job Description: As the Manager, Global Payroll you will have the opportunity to:Plan, coordinate, and manage the payroll department daily activitiesResponsible for preparation and execution of monthly international payroll. Serves as backup for domestic payroll as needed.Supervise all regular duties associated with the preparation, generation, and distribution of the semi-monthly domestic payroll and monthly international payrolls. Delegates appropriate duties to Payroll Specialist as neededEnsure all payroll processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner along with accurate and timely filing of monthly, quarterly and annual regulatory reportsInitiate and promote continual process improvements within the payroll department and implements changes leading to best-practice operations from a global perspectiveOversee payroll implementation in the supportof new worldwide office openingsEnsures compliance with federal, state, and international localized legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; obtaining qualified opinions; advising management on needed actionsDevelop and maintain written departmental payroll policies and proceduresPrepare payroll related accruals and reconciliations to the general ledgerCommunicate and implement pay policies and procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources, Tax, Accounting, and Legal DepartmentsProvide excellent customer service by assessing customer needs, researching and resolving issues, and communicating outcomes to employees and managersDevelops strong working relationships with other departments, external auditors, and payroll service providersInterpret payroll policies and government regulations for employees and management staffEnsure payroll balancing and system integrityReview and analyze balancing procedures to ensure accuracy of payroll dataReviews post payroll data (i.e., quarterly returns, W-2 data) to ensure timely and accurate filing to appropriate agenciesReviews and confirms accuracy of HR employee data feedsAudit timekeeping records and pay practices to ensure compliance with pay policies, financial reporting, and deductionsPlans and implements year-end payroll proceduresThe skills and experience required for this role are:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or other applicable disciplineA minimum of 5 years of payroll experience (preferably with international payroll background)Certified Payroll Professional designation a plusExtensive experience and knowledge in the Workday payroll platform a plusAptitude for learning payroll in other countries as the company expands its international operationsExperience with all aspects of payroll deductions and reporting as it relates to employee benefits, taxes, garnishments and other deductionsKnowledge of executive management payments and company-wide retirement program calculationsExperience with posting to the general ledger, processing third party garnishment vendor interfaces, and tax liabilitiesYou can connect with the Recruiter on LinkedIn.If you feel this opportunity could be the next step in your career, we encourage you to click "Apply" and complete our three-minute application.To stay up to date on current news and events, follow CFA Institute's LinkedIn page.We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
