The Center for Diversity (CDE) seeks candidate for a Program Coordinator to join its team. The Program Coordinator will facilitate community-building programs with a specific focus on the support of the Latinx community and Women within UVA Engineering. This position will be responsible for implementing and coordinating ongoing and one-off programs that contribute to student identity and leadership development, promoting equitable and safe environments within UVA Engineering, facilitating education on gender justice, and building a community of student leaders.

A successful candidate should be able to foster a supportive and student-centered environment to empower and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacy, as well as understanding the needs of students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds at the intersection of multiple identities. This role requires strong program planning and event management skills to implement, assess, and support various programs and workshops for students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Overall duties include student advising and engagement, program development and management, and serving as an advocate for undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will serve as a resource for underrepresented students and allies on academic, personal, social, and cultural matters in both one-on- one and group settings.

The responsibilities above will be coordinated in concert with a longitudinal research project focusing on academic achievement in STEM education. Institutional partners on this project include the Office of the Provost, affiliated faculty researchers from the Curry School of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Batten School of Public Policy. To this end, the ideal candidate will have experience using evidenced-based and data-informed approaches to both diversity, inclusion, and equity-focused work and engaging students (particularly Latinx communities and Women) on curricular and co-curricular matters through holistic paradigms in order to best meet individual student needs. The ideal candidate will be both autonomous and highly collaboratively, a creative problem-solver, and someone with a demonstrated commitment to student development, underrepresented and undeserved student populations, and knowledge of high impact practices related to student success for these populations.

A Bachelors degree with two years of relevant experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, or counseling. Must have experience working with and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, especially women, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous Americans, Asian and /or Asian Americans, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, and/or first-in-family. The ability to work some evening, weekend, and travel work required.
