The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia School
of Medicine seeks multiple Research Associates to conduct research
on physiologic or pathological cell plasticity. Dr. Lian-Wang Guos
laboratory conducts research on how epigenetic effectors transmit
environmental cues into chromatin remodeling and cell state
transitions. They aspire to understand how their interplay shapes
specific cell states. The laboratory also performs translational
research by targeting pathological cell plasticity to treat
vascular disease or retinal degeneration.
Qualified candidates are expected to have mastered
molecular/cell biology and biochemical approaches. Experience in
animal work or bioinformatics is preferred but not required. The
incumbent can choose between vascular and retinal projects.
Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to
an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate
within the previous five years and who will be involved in
full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as
a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is
preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is
supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish
the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training
