The Office of Medical Education Office (OME) at the University
of Virginia School of Medicine (SOM) seeks applicants for a Medical
Education Program Coordinator to assist with several programs to
educate medical students. This position ensures a smooth operation
for the day-to-day activities and administrative needs for the SOM.
These medical student programs include Foundations of Clinical
Medicine (FCM), a four-year program that focuses on developing
medical students skills in history taking, relationship building,
physical examination, differential diagnosis, diagnostic reasoning,
etc. through case-based exercises. The position will also assist
with our Generalist Scholars Program (GSP), another four-year
program which trains medical student leaders who are interested in
pursuing positions in general medicine (Family Medicine,
Pediatrics, and General Medicine).This position will also assist
with various short courses/projects as needed.
The successful candidate will:
- Collaborate with course leadership to develop academic
schedules, distribute materials/instructions for students and
faculty, and coordinate with other UVa faculty/administrators.
- While working as part of a team, this position will have
primary responsibility for FCM for second-year students, which runs
in the fall.
- Oversee and run student activities including: scheduling
meetings and courses on Zoom, hosting meetings and facilitating
breakout groups, reserving space, ordering supplies, and arranging
- Provide daily on-site logistical support including: setting
up/resetting rooms, collecting paperwork from students and faculty,
setting up supplies, and providing assistance as needed.
- Provide operational support before, during, and after
- Respond to questions in advance of programs, welcome students
and faculty at each event, provide announcements of essential
information at the start of programs, and communicate critical
information throughout the week.
- As primary administrative lead for the GSP, ensure delivery of
curricular activities to include the monthly faculty-student
meetings, fourth-year scholarship presentation, professional
development seminars, and student-led activities such as Primary
Care Week and Student Retreat.
- Coordinate the GSP admissions process to include assembling and
providing the faculty with applications and review forms, preparing
acceptance letters, and communicating with applicants.
- Coordinate the three-week GSP summer course: identifying
subject matter experts as well as physicians and community
practices for the clinical care shadowing, serving as primary
liaison, and managing daily activities.
- Financial duties include: paying patient honoraria, ordering
supplies, and setting up catering orders.
Education: High school diploma. Candidates should have
experience in education and/or the coordination/management of
educational programs or projects.
Experience: At leasttwo years of relevant experience is
