The Gross Anatomy Lab and Surgical Skills Center within the
Office of Medical Education (OME) at the University of Virginia
School of Medicine seeks applicants for a Gross Anatomy Laboratory
Technologist. The successful applicant will:
- Assist the Director of Gross Anatomy Education and
pre-clerkship system and thread leaders (neuroanatomy and
pathology) with scheduling, organizing, and preparing all
educational activities occurring within the Gross Anatomy
- Assist anatomy, neuroanatomy, and pathology faculty during
laboratory sessions, preparation of pro-sections, practical exam
setup, practical exam proctoring, and practical exam cleanup.
- Assist with other OME courses requiring use of the Gross
Anatomy and Surgical Skills labs, such as the Residency Preparation
- Function as a liaison for the respiratory safety program; this
includes maintaining compliance records, coordinating dates of
formaldehyde testing, maintaining protocol for students
requiring/requesting a respirator, and assisting students who
require a respirator with the following items: student health
clearance, respirator fitting, maintain supplies of respirator
cartridges, troubleshoot respirator issues.
- Facilitate resident and medical student use of the Surgical
Skills Lab, including scheduling, preparation of instruments, and
assisting during educational surgical procedures.
- Assist with surgical instrument setup in the Surgical Skills
Lab for vendor laboratory sessions.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of computers, equipment,
cadavers, and specimens within the Gross Anatomy Laboratory.
Applicants must be highly organized and have excellent
written/verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, as well
as the ability to juggle multiple projects, adapt to changing
priorities, and meet deadlines. A working knowledge of Microsoft
Word, Excel, and Outlook is required, as well as the ability to use
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent and Surgical
Technology Certification by the National Board of Surgical
Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). American Heart
Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification is also

The anticipated hiring range for this position is
$50,000-$55,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and
