The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia
seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the contribution
of ER stress in immune responses in the context of sepsis, viral
infection and neuroinflammation. The incumbent will conduct
research in the laboratory of Dr. Alban Gaultier, within the Center
for Brain Immunology and Glia.
The Center for Brain Immunology and Glia is highly collaborative
with state of the art shared equipment (https://med.virginia.edu/big/).
Research topics studied include brain infections and injury,
multiple sclerosis, and autism.
Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to
an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate
within the previous five years and who will be involved in
full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as
a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is
preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is
supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish
the results of research or scholarship during the training
The University of Virginia is located in picturesque and
historical Charlottesville, with outstanding schools, affordable
housing, and is less than two hours from Washington, DC, and only
an hour away from Richmond, VA.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on
funding and satisfactory performance.

Education: PhD degree prior to start date.
Experience: A background in Immunology and/or Neuroscience, as
well as extensive experience in conducting independent research and
supervising research trainees and/or technicians is preferred. In
addition, candidates should have first author publications in
peer-reviewed scientific journals and effective oral and written
communication skills. Candidates with experience in animal research
are also preferred.
