The Department of Pediatrics' Division of Cardiology at the University of Virginia seeks a full-time, open track, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Pediatrics to join and eventually develop and direct the Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) program. Salary and rank are dependent upon qualifications. Candidates must have an MD or DO and be board certified in Pediatrics and board certified or eligible in Adult Congenital Heart Disease. Cardiology training may be adult or pediatric. Clinical experience in managing ACHD patients in on-site clinics, outreach clinics, and inpatient services is expected. The leadership role will have as an expectation achieving institutional ACHD Center of Excellence designation, and appropriate resources will be made available to achieve this. Program growth is expected, including in outpatient, inpatient consult, congenital surgery, and transplant volumes. The successful candidate will develop collaborative working relationships with adult subspecialties including critical care and cardiology and with ACHD providers around the state. The successful candidate will also participate in enhancing the program for transition of care of adolescents and young adults with congenital heart disease to the ACHD program. There will be no expectation of participation in pediatric cardiology clinical care. An active research program is desirable, and teaching of pediatric and adult cardiology fellows is an expectation. Experience directing an ACHD center or program is welcomed, as is experience securing accreditation. Junior candidates, including those nearing completion of ACHD training, will also be considered, with mentorship leading to gradual acquisition of leadership provided. The Division of Pediatric Cardiology is a strong division, composed of senior and junior faculty and currently comprises 10 cardiologists with a variety of clinical interests, including heart failure/transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, interventional cardiology, imaging, and electrophysiology. There are 3 faculty in the division currently caring for the ACHD population who will assist the new hire in providing care to the current population if desired. Administrative oversight will be provided by a senior pediatric cardiologist if the candidate is early in his/her career. We have 2 dedicated congenital heart surgeons who perform surgical procedures on patients of all ages with congenital heart disease with some of the best risk-adjusted mortality rates in the country. The surgical program is on pace to perform 40-50 ACHD surgical cases this year. Our Children's Heart Program has been ranked in the top 50 in the US News and World Report annual survey each of the past 6 years.
