Job Description:
The School of Education and Human Development at the University
of Virginia seeks a full-time Research Specialist Intermediate to
work on school-based prevention projects implemented in Maryland
and Virginia. This position is in Charlottesville, VA and
affiliated with the Youth-Nex, the UVA Center to Promote Effective
Youth Development. Youth-Nex is a dynamic research center committed
to expanding and applying the science of positive youth development
to address fundamental challenges facing societies around the
world. The Research SpecialistIntermediatewould work on a research
team conducting studies focused largely on issues related to
student behavioral and mental health, social-emotional learning,
school climate, and classroom-based supports for students and
teachers.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of research
methods, data management, and data analysis in school-based
research. The Research SpecialistIntermediatewill be responsible
for organizing, managing, and preparing data files as part of a set
of research studies being conducted in public-school systems funded
by the various federal agencies (e.g., Institute of Educational
Education Services Sciences, and National Institute of Minority
Health and Health Disparities). This position will support the
management of survey data, school-based observational data, and
administrative data. A large part of the role will include
overseeing screening and verification of these data, as well as
data and project documentation (e.g., technical reporting, creation
of data codebooks). This person will also conduct advanced
statistical analyses (e.g., descriptive analyses, latent variable
modeling, multi-level modeling, missing data analysis, regression,
power analyses) using software such as Stata, R, Mplus, HLM, and/or
SPSS with mentorship and direction from faculty on the broader
research team (e.g., Catherine Bradshaw, Jessika Bottiani, Amanda
Nguyen, Heather McDaniel, Katrina Debnam). The Research
SpecialistIntermediatewill also support the preparation of grant
reports, grant applications, and publications in conjunction with
research team members. Further, the position will provide general
administrative and reporting support to the research team.

A Master's Degree in research, statistics, evaluation, psychology,
education or a related field.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of
desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some
distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $48,000 - $57,000 (commensurate with
