Job Description:
The University of Virginia Department of Drama invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in
voice-speech or acting, with a start date in August 2023.
We seek candidates with an established or emerging record of
published research and/or creative work in any medium of stage,
film, or interactive performance. We especially welcome candidates
with experience in performance traditions of the Global South;
Asian/Pacific Islander, Latine, Indigenous, Black performance
traditions; queer/trans performance practices; performance and
disability; and/or theatre for social change. Applicants with a
demonstrated commitment to serving students and audiences of the
global majority, and with practical experience of anti-racist,
decolonizing, and/or culturally responsive teaching and
performance, are preferred.
Our department offers wide-ranging curricula in a liberal arts
setting, emphasizing collaboration, social engagement, the
integration of theory and practice, and the development of theatre
as artistic expression and critical inquiry. Candidates will
contribute to the ongoing innovation of our undergraduate and
graduate offerings, which include a newly redesigned B.A. in Drama
and Dance; a Minor in Drama; a Minor in Dance; and an M.F.A. in
Drama. Candidates will have the opportunity to engage in flexible
and creative partnerships with students and colleagues in the
department and the communities of Charlottesville and central
Virginia. The university encourages interdisciplinary projects and
supports several ongoing cross-departmental programs, such as the
Institute of the Humanities and Global Culture, the Democracy
Initiative, and the College Fellows. Responsibilities will
include:
+ Teaching two courses per semester.
+ Building an excellent portfolio of research/creative work.
+ Contributing to departmental and university service.

Qualifications:
+ Terminal degree in theatre or a related field, or equivalent
professional experience required
+ Active agenda of research publication and/or professional
creative activity
+ Experience in teaching or coaching voice-speech and/or acting at
the university or professional theatre level
+ Demonstrated commitment to advancing inclusive excellence through
teaching, research, and/or professional practice

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of
