Job Description:

The incumbent is responsible for providing high-level quantitative and analytical support to the University of Virginia Physicians Group and clinical department senior management for purposes of business planning, and operational and financial management. The analyst coordinates internal processes for the development and implementation of financial and operational business plans. The incumbent will work closely with the Manager of Planning & Analysis, Director of Finance, Director of Business Development, Clinical Department Administrators and Chairs, and other Health System leadership, and is responsible for business planning, financial and operational analysis, and the accumulation, analysis, and reporting of Health System metrics and other industry data.Work with Clinical Department Administrators and Chairs, and UPG leadership, to develop, recommend and update business plans and strategic plans to support UPG and Health System goals for clinical activities, new ventures, and other business opportunities.Recommend market strategies for the purpose of growing the clinical networkAnalyze market data for the purpose of identifying growth opportunitiesHelp develop or review pro forms for new faculty and new lines of business.Assist in operational implementation of process changes and business plans, particularly the preparation of supporting finance functions and information systemsReview physician productivity, compensation, and other metrics against industry benchmarks.Perform systematic review of internal reports to trend performance.Pull billing information from appropriate sources to complete ad-hoc analyses.Communicate and present high-level quantitative analyses to the University of Virginia Physicians Group senior leadership, physician leadership and department administrators, clearly communicating the strengths and limitations of the data.Participate in operations management forums with department administrators.Maintain an in-depth understanding of the University of Virginia Physicians Group billing and collections operation, including operational policies and procedures, and how they are implemented in the billing system.Maintain expertise in the areas of national health care trends, third-party reimbursement, and physician billing and collections.Assist Clinical Department Administrators and Chairs in developing strategic and business plans through the gathering of dataAssist Clinical Departments in meeting budget process schedules, goals, and objectives.Contribute to design and development of budget process and budgeting tools through the development of business plansReview monthly financial information to identify and analyze management issues and explain budget variances as compared to approved business plans.Assess professional staffing levels, productivity and compensation to provide feedback on adequacy, benchmark comparisons and performance against budget.Work on joint teams within Planning and Analysis and with other University of Virginia Physicians Group staff to identify business opportunitiesPull financial information from various sources to complete ad-hoc analyses.Work with the School of Medicine administration to ensure a seamless relationship between the Health Systems clinical, teaching, and research missions.Participates in professional development activities to keep current with health care trends and practices.Completes and manages other special projects as assigned.Coordinate internal processes for development and implementation of critical analyses and functions.Identify and implement internal process improvements, both within Planning and Analysis and in coordination with other units.Ensure accurate and timely submission of information to Accounting for clinical and administrative financial statements.Develop and maintain a variety of pricing databases, including relative values and carrier allowances.Conduct analyses to determine the financial impact of business plansDevelop project plansDevelop new data models for the creation of business plansAct as liaison with system vendors to resolve system reporting issues and to enhance existing capabilities.Ensure that all data, reports, and supporting information are maintained in a manner that is consistent, confidential, and protected.Work with the School of Medicine administration to ensure a seamless relationship between the Health Systems clinical, teaching, and research missions.Review and maintain fee schedules for professional services.Assist in contract review with legal counsel, administrators, and senior leadership to assure consistency and accuracy of financial measures utilized in contractual agreements.Conduct annual analyses to determine the impact of changes in the Medicare RBRVS schedule.Assist Director in development, implementation and maintenance of unit policies and procedures.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation:Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and experience.Experience:Five years' quantitative analysis or five years in an equivalent position and relevant experience.Four years general office experience, to include customer service, report creation and generation.Knowledge and skills:Knowledge of data analysis methodologies and report writing software.Advanced level of microcomputer proficiency, including proficiency in spreadsheet and relational database software programs.Intermediate knowledge of EPIC.10-key and typing proficiency.Licensure:None.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
