Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.FM's Capitol Construction and Renovations (CCR) team has an exciting opportunity for an Electrician. CCR supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable electrical construction and maintenance to the University community. The incumbent performs installation, repair, and maintenance work on electrical systems and equipment in buildings. The incumbent is responsible for responding to renovation projects and support to maintenance buildings. Electricians provide labor and technical knowledge for installation and maintenance of building components and mechanical systems while providing a safe environment. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings while keeping safety our number one priority.Duties Include:Install and maintain electrical equipment, components and lighting fixtures with proper wiring and material while maintaining the National Electrical CODE.Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and wiring for Academic and Health System electrical systems.Specify, estimate materials, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements i.e., National Electrical CODE.Lay out and locate areas to cut or drill holes and openings for installation of sleeve or inserts for passage and support for pipe, fittings, and wire.Respond to emergency requests.Inform management/customer of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint CommissionAssist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.Requirements:Education: High school diploma or equivalentExperience: Four years of experience in the electrical field.Licensure: Journeyman or higher electrical license, as well as a valid driver's license with a positive points balance.For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the necessary background checks and health screen.The anticipated hiring range for this position $20.60 - $24 hourly ($42,848 - $49,920).Physical Demands:The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).
