National Radio Astronomy ObservatoryPosition Description: Position SummaryThe National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is seeking a full-time technician (NRAOs classification: Technical Specialist) at the Central Development Laboratory (CDL) in Charlottesville, VA to work in the Millimeter/Submillimeter receiver group.This group designs and builds cryogenic receivers for radio telescopes and is currently designing the next generation receiver for the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), which will use -70 such receivers.This position requires experience assembling electronic components under a microscope and testing sensitive electronic devices. Experience using a manually controlled wire bonder is also desirable.Applicants must be methodical, motivated team players who are comfortable in a diverse research environment. Good writing and communication skills are required to keep records and document the work. All applicants must be comfortable using MS Word and Excel to manage and graph measurement results.In addition to competitive pay, NRAO provides excellent paid time off benefits (vacation and sick leave).
