JOB DESCRIPTION:
Human Resources announces four openings for the position of TSC Technician I, II, II. These positions are full-time twelve-month career ladder position, Grades E2, E4 and E6.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
The TSC Technicians set up and service Arlington Public Schools computer and AV equipment. The technicians also attach the computer equipment to APS networks. The set up and service work may occur at school sites or in designated work shops at the Service Support Center.

This is a three-level career ladder professional classification assigned to the Service Support Center. Placement on and progression through the ladder is based on proficiency, training, regulations, and employment standards. Incumbents may be advanced non-competitively to the next level of the ladder after fulfillment of all career ladder advancement requirements, upon recommendation of the Service Support Center Supervisor and approval of the Human Resources Department. Outside candidates who are highly qualified, as determined by the Human Resources Department, may be appointed directly to the II or III level.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK (May not include all duties performed - These are intended as an illustration of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)

  • Staff provides the set up and repair service of APS computer hardware, computer software, and/or audio-visual equipment.
  • Staff provides help or assistance on APS equipment to APS personnel on an informal basis.
  • Attends occasional departmental meetings and training.
  • Unpacks and performs physical set up of equipment; keeps records of service performed and parts used; coordinates warranty repairs; works independently or as part of a team; orders repair parts; answers client questions. The following are assigned based on skill level attained for Technician I/II/III:
    • Diagnoses and repairs PC computer problems.
    • Installs computers and other technology equipment.
    • Diagnoses and repairs Windows operating system software problems.
    • Contacts vendors for warranty repair.
    • Searches the Internet for software upgrades and drivers.
    • Updates SSC repair ticket database.
    • Diagnoses and repairs inkjet printer problems.
    • Diagnoses and repairs laser printer problems.
    • Clones computer systems.
    • Higher-level technicians may be asked to provide assistance and training to lower level technicians.
    • Performs related duties as required or assigned. EXPERIENCE:
      • Experience working with students, families, and staff from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
        QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
        • Graduation from an accredited high school, and supplemented by technical training in the operation and repair of computer systems.
          • Must have demonstrated competence in setting up and repairing PCs, Macs, printers, fax machines, and general AV equipment.
          • Installs operating systems, basic productivity software, network interface software, TCP/IP, cards and peripherals.
          • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in analyzing computer systems to make sound recommendations and modifications.
            • Ability to write effectively in order to develop technical documentation and user manuals.
            • Ability to coordinate work with user offices.
            • Flexibility and adaptability to deal with changing technologies and priorities.
            • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
            • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other APS employees, contractors, vendors and county employees.
            • Ability to deal with problems in a courteous, tactful manner.
              • Ability to travel to all school sites and work a flexible schedule to fulfill job responsibilities.
                Technician I
                • At least one year of experience installing and repairing computers and peripherals.
                  Technician II
                  • At least three years of increasingly responsible experience installing and repairing computers and printers.
                  • Associates Degree preferred.
                    Technician III
                    • At least five years of increasingly responsible experience installing, repairing, and maintaining computers, printers, hardware, software operating systems and related equipment such as fax, radios, and AV equipment.
                    • Some supervisory experience as a project leader is required at this level.
                    • Associates Degree preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skills and abilities. APPLY TO: SALARY:
                      Salary range of $51,900 to $108,570 annually based upon 23/24 pay plan.
