Your Role

As a Gensler Architect with our team in Washington, D.C. , your job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for our incredible clients. With you as part of the team, our designs have never been so engaging.We are seeking an Architectural Designer with a strong computational skill set, particularly in Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience using Grasshopper, with a deep understanding of data structures, optimization techniques, parametric design, and knowledge with key plugins such as Galapagos and others within the Grasshopper ecosystem.This role requires an ability to rapidly generate and iterate through potential design solutions, and to visualize designs using advanced rendering tools like Enscape, Unreal Engine, or Chaos Vantage, with a portfolio that demonstrates an understanding of light and materiality. Proficiency in Revit is essential, along with a solid grasp of interoperability between Revit and Rhino to facilitate seamless design workflows.Preferred candidates will bring additional skills in emerging technologies and software, such as Stable Diffusion, Adobe Creative Suite, Dynamo, Midjourney, Runway, and After Effects. The ideal designer will excel in rapidly modeling concepts under tight deadlines while approaching projects with creativity, energy, and a passion for innovative architectural design.What You Will Do

  • Collaborate on design projects in the Hospitality space, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development and documentation
  • Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
  • Documentation coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.)
  • Assist in resolving complex technical and design issues
  • Assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination
  • Provide project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction
  • Manage the construction administration of projects and review of submittals and finish samples
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programsYour Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in architecture from an accredited school
    • A master's degree in architecture is not required but is preferred.
    • Licensure required
    • 10+ years of experience in the profession of architectural design
    • Experience within hospitality, retail, and/or entertainment or similarly complex projects preferred
    • Proficiency with SketchUp, 3D Max, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, but not required
    • 3+ years of experience utilizing Revit, Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Office experience desired. AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, Enscape, VRay also beneficial
    • Experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants
    • Experience working directly with contractors
    • Experience resolving complex technical and design issues
    • Experience performing zoning and code analysis in multiple jurisdictions
    • Understanding of how buildings are constructed, along with the ability to create technical documents that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done
    • Understanding of sustainable and universal design concepts
    • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and relationship management skills
    • Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwell and /or Net Zero Building certification*For consideration, you must submit a portfolio and your resume in PDF format.**The base salary will be estimated between $91,000K- $119,000K plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
